Day One Major Trauma Support – Volunteering with Day One

At Leeds Cares, we’re always looking for volunteers to help us – both with fundraising activity and as part of our Day One Peer Support Programme. If you think you can help us, we’d love to hear from you!

Peer support volunteers are usually former patients or relatives of former patients who are kindly donating their time to share their experiences with others. They support new patients and family members by talking through individual concerns and taking time to chat, listen and offer advice. Whether you have questions about life after trauma or you just want regular conversation to relieve the boredom of the trauma ward – our volunteers are here to help.

Volunteers also spend time on the wards, at outpatient clinics, making tea and coffee, and supporting Leeds Cares staff.

The role of a Day One volunteer can be wide ranging and hugely rewarding.

“The best thing about volunteering for Day One is that I am giving something back and supporting patients who have also been through trauma. They can also see that recovery does happen and normal life can resume again.”
Catherine, volunteer

All volunteers will receive:

  • A volunteer t-shirt, lanyard and badge
  • Bespoke training
  • Support and friendship (and the chance to join a great team!)
