Steve’s Story: Pedalling in memory of his grandson
Steve is taking on the UCI Sportive and Ride Across Britain Cycling challenges
63-year-old Steve Milner from York is taking on not one but two cycling challenges this September to raise money for Leeds Cares!
In support of his daughter Ruth Hopkins’ fundraising for the Neonatal Unit at Leeds Children’s Hospital in memory of her son Dexter, Steve is tackling the Deloitte Ride Across Britain, from Land’s End to John O’Groats and the long route of the UCI World Road Championships Sportive.
The Deloitte Ride Across Britain is 980 miles through 27 counties across England, Wales and Scotland and the UCI Sportive is a 150km route across the hilly Yorkshire Dales. Steve has been training hard in the months leading up to the challenges, cycling over 200 miles a week in preparation.
Steve said: “It is a brilliant opportunity to raise as much money as possible for my chosen charities, in particular Leeds Cares, who gave such fantastic support and care to my daughter Ruth two years ago when she suffered a stillbirth, two years after suffering an ectopic pregnancy.”
Grandson Dexter will be going along for the ride with Steve, his name attached to Steve’s cycling jersey on a bear card. Steve would love to take any of Dexter’s buddies along with him for a small donation (suggested £5).
