Meet Sandra and Pam: Breast Cancer Action Volunteers
Sandra and Pam volunteer on the Breast Unit every month
Sandra Ramsden and Pam Kennedy give up their time one Wednesday a month to volunteer on the Breast Unit at St James’s Hospital. Between 10am and 12pm , Pam and Sandra run a ‘trolley service’ serving refreshments to patients on the Breast Unit at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Pam and Sandra also sell Breast Cancer Action badges and other merchandise to raise money and awareness.
The ‘Breast Cancer Action’ fundraising group was formed in 1994 by ex-breast cancer patients and their supporters. This dedicated group of women organise events throughout the year to generate important funds for Leeds Cares, which are specifically used for breast cancer research at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
Pam, who has been part of the group from the beginning, told us, “It’s been wonderful to see the group go from strength to strength with all the support we receive and new members. I have lovely memories from the fundraising events.” So far, the group has raised over £1 million which has been used to fund vital research in Leeds.
