Double 50th celebrations to raise funds for Yorkshire cancer patients

A double birthday celebration ball is aiming to raise thousands of pounds to help local people living with cancer.

Yorkshire-born Sara Williamson and her friend Charone Dyer, both diagnosed with cancer, will turn 50 in May. Not content with just celebrating this milestone, Sara has organised ‘The White Rose Ball’ to support other patients like herself and Charone.

The ball, which will take place at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds on Saturday 25 May, will include fizz on arrival at 6:30pm, followed by a three-course dinner. The evening will feature an auction and a raffle, along with live music, a DJ and some very special guests!

All money raised on the night will be divided equally between five Yorkshire cancer charities who have been involved in the ladies’ cancer journey: Breast Cancer Haven Yorkshire, Leeds Cares (supporting the Leeds Cancer Centre), Macmillan Cancer Support, MY (Mid Yorkshire) Breast Cancer Support and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

"Your life changes forever"

Three years on from her breast cancer diagnosis, Sara still has four rounds of major surgery ahead of her. Her treatment plan has been ‘stop-start’ ever since she went into heart failure during chemotherapy.

Sara says she can’t find enough praise for the clinical, emotional and practical care she has received from the NHS and local support networks that have kept her going since diagnosis: “Once you’re on the receiving end of a cancer diagnosis, your life changes forever. But, with the right care and support, you can be helped to make the most of whatever lies ahead.”

Sara, alongside her friends and supporters, has already raised more than £100,000 for cancer support in Yorkshire. In addition to fundraising, Sara works alongside clinicians and strategists responsible for developing cancer care in Yorkshire, sharing her own personal cancer experience with others.

She has contributed to several awareness videos and regularly speaks at events. Her efforts have also brought her to the attention of many of the regional media personalities who will also be lending their support to help her make her White Rose Ball a success.

Tickets for the event are just £50 each and can be purchased by emailing Sara at sara-williamson@lineone.net. Tickets are also available on Facebook – search “White Rose Ball 2019”.
