3e Consulting firm jump on their bikes for major cycling event!
Wakefield based engineering firm 3e Consulting Engineers have become the first company to sign up as a corporate team in this year’s UCI Road World Championships Sportive Event. The firm will be raising money for hospital charity Leeds Cares, the official fundraising partner of the major cycling event which is due to come to Yorkshire this September.
Directors of the company Anthony Armitage and Adam Cooper (both in their forties) are leading the team of ten, all taking part in the long route of the Championships Sportive on the 22nd September. The amateur event takes place on the first day of eight days of cycling activity during the Road World Championships, which is coming back to Britain after more than 30 years.
The firm are cycling mad and are all based in different towns across Yorkshire – from North Leeds to Holmfirth – so are used to getting out and tackling the hills. The company are also huge supporters of the NHS and felt it was really important to back a local charity who make an impact on their doorstep. Both of Adam’s children were born following emergency operations and he himself has ended up in A&E after a cycling accident – so he’s incredibly grateful for the NHS and the amazing service it provides.
Adam said “We’re used to watching the championships on TV so when we saw the event was coming to Yorkshire and that there would be a sportive, it seemed like an opportunity we couldn’t miss. When we found out that Leeds Cares was the fundraising partner it was a great way for us to get involved and also give back to our community.”
All ten participants will be training in group rides over the summer, with some of the team even taking part in an event in Majorca in preparation. Though Adam does admit there’ll be a bit of ‘winging it’ on the day for some of the team, hoping the crowds and atmosphere get them through.
The group have committed to raising £10,000 in total for Leeds Cares, who will be using the fundraising for brand new health and wellbeing projects at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. They plan to achieve their target by fundraising in partnership with some of their clients, industry partners and also doing individual fundraising before the big day.
